ENTHUSIASTIC LOCALS have given the thumbs up to the building of a small visitor centre at one of Greenfield’s best-loved beauty spots.

Two hundred people took part in the RSPB’s public consultation and now the proposed centre at Dovestone Reservoir is a step closer to becoming a reality.
The consultation, via online surveys, drop in sessions and questionnaires, shared views on hub, which would provide new toilets, a catering kiosk area and shelter.
In supporting the proposals, comments included “Long overdue – will be good to have a hub that co-ordinates all the activities of the RSPB and the ranger services.”
Others added “We need a visitor centre and the proposed site is ideal” and “A visitor centre is required for wet weather, holding community events and as a base to get more information on the RSPB and the site itself.”
The preferred site for the hub is on grassed area next to Dovestone Sailing Club, who are involved in the proposals and negotiations.
Miriam Biran, Visitor Experience Manager at Dovestone, thanked all the people who took part in the public consultation last summer and shared their comments.
She said: “We are delighted with the outcome, as we knew following feedback from thousands of visitors over the past five years there is a real need for a visitor centre and improved facilities on site.
“The next steps are to finalise the lease transfer with the club, submit a planning application and look at funding options.
“Consequently, the hub is still a few years away from becoming a reality but we are really excited about the future.”
In response to visitor needs, there would space for community use and education activities, and the creation of additional volunteering opportunities.
The hub also aims to include office space for RSPB staff, volunteers and a Peak District National Park Authority ranger brining thrm closet to visitors.
The RSPB, which manages Dovestone in partnership with land owner United Utilities, has worked with UU, Dovestone Sailing Club and the Peak District National Park Authority throughout the proposals.
