THERE was festive fun for all the family and a visit from Santa himself at Dovestone Women’s Institute’s Christmas Markets.
The event at Saddleworth Rangers Rugby Club in Greenfield included a large variety of stalls, a food marquee, the WI Café, and entertainment.
Rudolph’s Railway took children to Santa’s Grotto to meet Santa, ably assisted by the Dovestone WI Elf Squad and Oldham Mountain Rescue Team.
Dovestone WI said: “After months of planning, our Family Christmas Markets, raising funds for Oldham Mountain Rescue, were a great success and very well attended.
“There was a lovely festive atmosphere with splendid music. To everyone who supported us in the weeks before and on the day, we cannot thank you enough.”
Then December 13 marked the end of the group’s first year as Dovestone WI with a members’ Christmas Party Night Out at the Royal George in Greenfield, complete with a buffet and disco.
Their next Monday Meet Up will be on January 6 at Reclamation Room, Uppermill. This is free for members and £2 for non-members.
There is a craft workshop, the Bookworms book club from 7pm followed by The Dovestone Divas singers from 8.15pm to 9.15pm.
WI members’ meetings take place on the third Tuesday of each month at 7.30pm. The first meeting of 2020 – January 21 – is Quiz Night, so get your thinking caps on.
The group meets at the Royal George, Greenfield. Please register in the downstairs bar from 7pm. Donation of £1 for members, £3 for non-members.
New members and guests very welcome. Guests may attend two taster meetings before joining. The annual subscription of £43 is renewable in January 2020.
