Get last glimpse of life-sized Uppermill Advent Calendar

CHRISTMAS may be fading into fond memories but windows across Uppermill are still shining bright with festive cheer for a little longer.

The Uppermill Advent Calendar sees the windows of homes, businesses and churches around the village brightly and creatively decorated for passers-by to admire.

One window is ‘opened’ each day from December 1 to 24 to reveal a display, with this year’s theme being Christmas lights.

Each window is lit up from 4pm to 9pm each day after its start date until Twelfth Night (January 5).

The calendar is now in its sixth year and new participants joining in this time include Uppermill Library, St Chad’s Primary School, and Rainbows, Brownies and Guides.

Other homes and businesses returning with displays include 2 Saddleworth Fold, Oliviccio and 6 Court Street.

Erica Ryan, founder and co-ordinator, commented: “We try to use Uppermill Advent to spread Christmas cheer and this year we would also like to invite you to support Oldham Foodbank.

“Throughout the period of the calendar, donations can be dropped at 2 Saddleworth Fold (our second window), either in the porch or in the tin box outside.

“We are very grateful to everyone who takes part and creates a window. The emphasis of Uppermill Advent is to encourage everyone to have fun and join in.”
