Dovestone Youth Rangers give an update on their work in the area
MY NAME is Molly Payne and since the start of 2017 I have been volunteering for Saddleworth Environmental Education.
During my time volunteering I have been helping the Dovestone Youth Rangers (DYR) with the various different tasks they have been completing on a weekly basis.
So far this year we have helped to keep Dovestone Reservoir tidy by regularly litter picking. This seems to be an issue, which the DYR have addressed as they are keen to maintain the area’s beautiful appearance and keep it litter free!
Also, we have spent some time at Little Owl Farm, in Denshaw. The DYR have helped with several different tasks such as: planting, mucking out, feeding, grooming, basic healthcare of animals and general maintenance. Each of these tasks they are keen to get involved with!
The DYR have also been helping at local supported housing units in Greenfield: Chew Brook and Wood Square. During their visits they help to maintain the gardens – under the watchful eyes of the residents, who ‘treat’ the DYR for all their hard work.
And just around the corner on Wellington Road they have been recently involved in an on-going project at The Satellite Centre. The project is to build a relaxation/mediation area for groups, who visit the centre, to use.
It is refreshing to see such passion and enthusiasm about not only the environment but also the need to help others in the Saddleworth community.
Each individual member of the team shares the same values and I am proud to be part of such a wonderful organisation.
