The ten goals in that game meant the number of goals scored in the Premier League last season was exactly the same for the 380 games as two seasons previously – 1,063 at an average of 2.79 per game.  In season 2010-11 it was 1,053, average 2.77 and in season 2011-12 it was 1,066, average 2.80.

When the Football League was formed in 1888-89, in 132 games 587 goals were scored (4.44 average).  The following season 611 for the same number of games, giving an average of 4.62 per game – the highest average in any season in the top flight, however named.

The last team in the Premier to score more than 100 goals in a season was Chelsea, who scored 103 when they won the league in 2009-10.

Look when Spurs last won the top division in 1960-61: they did the double that season and scored 105 goals in 42 league games. Wolves and Burnley were third and fourth respectively; Wolves scored 103 and Burnley 102.

That year the winners of all four divisions scored 100 goals or more.  Ipswich second tier winners netted 100 (42 games); Bury came third with 108 (46) and Peterborough 135 in fourth (46). Terry Bly scored 52 combined league and cup goals for Peterborough that year. Crystal Palace, second in the fourth tier, scored 110.

Lee Johnson was appointed manager of Latics on March 18, 2013.  By the last Saturday of the Premier League’s fixtures on May 12 some eight weeks later, he was the 77th longest serving manager among the 92 league teams. Anybody want the secure job of a manger?
