Tribute to Les

MANCHESTER CITY are to hold a tribute match in recognition of the long service of Delph’s Les Chapman.

A host of former players will appear in the match at Stockport County’s Edgeley Park on Sunday, August 4 to honour City’s legendary 64-year-old kitman.

They include the likes of Shaun Goater, Robbie Fowler, Asa Hartford, Peter Barnes, Steve McManaman, Andy Morrison, Paul Dickov, Kevin Horlock and Uwe Rosler.

The match has been switched to Stockport because of work being done to the pitch at the Etihad Stadium.

Apart from a short spell at Huddersfield as first-team coach, Chapman has been at City since 1993 joining them initially as reserve-team coach.

As a footballer, Royton-born Chapman played for 22 seasons making 749 League appearances having two spells at Latics and Huddersfield and also starring for Bradford, Rochdale, Preston and Stockport. He also had a spell with San Jose Earthquakes in the North America Soccer League.

He later managed Stockport County and Preston North End before beginning his lengthy association with City.
