SADDLEWORTH MORRIS Men will be entertaining the punters in the villages’ pubs on Tuesday, December 27 with their annual Lordsmere Longsword finale.
Performed in circling and intertwining ‘figures’ at a fast pace, the dance’s climax sees the swords interlocked to form the ‘lock’ which is then held aloft to the crowd.
The Morris side will remove their famous waistcoats, sashes and bells from their clogs to carry out the dance in traditional dress.
This year’s newest recruit David ‘Harry’ Harrison will lead the day’s proceedings as ‘Captain’, announcing the beginning of each performance.
He commented: “The pubs will play host to our end of season dance once again and we look forward to performing to the public for the last time until April 2017.
“We only do this once a year and it’s a great excuse to leave the house and extend the Christmas festivities!”
The proposed schedule for the event is:
- 1pm: The Wellington
- 2pm: The Swan (Dobcross)
- 3pm: The Navigation
- 4pm: Hare and Hounds
- 5pm: The Commercial
- 7pm: Cross Keys
- 8pm: Church Inn (till late)
