Flingers flock to custard pie fight

MORE THAN £3,500 was raised for Cancer Research as participants flocked to take part in Operation Custard Pie Fight.

Organised by Tracey Barlow, the event saw locals of all ages take to the fields at Uppermill Sports Club to hurl paper plates of custard at each other in aid of the charity.

More than 750 people attended the fun day, which also offered live bands, stalls, and a burger bar run by Road Wizards MCC, who raised £406 for each of Help for Heroes and Cancer Research.

Tracey, who smashed her target of £2,000, said: “It was a marvellous day and a really great family event. The weather held out, no accidents were reported and I’ve already had people asking me to do it again.”

The fun-loving mum is hoping to raise more money when she slides into custard to celebrate her 50th birthday in November, and has insisted on donations instead of presents.
