A VINTAGE SLOGAN from almost 40 years ago has been revived by proud villagers in a bid to raise much-needed funds for Diggle Band Club.
T-shirts saying ‘I dig Diggle’ were first worn in 1977 by youth club members to fund a float for Oldham and Mossley Carnivals, and proved an instant hit with villagers at the parades.
And now, 36 years later, Friends of Diggle Band Club have relaunched the design and motto with the permission of creator and then youth club leader Kath Airey.
Since their launch last month, the t-shirts have been snapped up by people wanting to show appreciation of their roots as well as keep the band club alike and kicking.
Friends of Diggle Band Club Kirsty Jones said: “The t-shirts bring back some great memories for people who are now grown up and have kids of their own. At the time everyone in the village had one!”
Funds raised from the sale of the t-shirts will go to improvements and projects at Diggle Band club to keep it at the centre of community life.
‘I dig Diggle’ T-shirts are available in all sizes. They will be on sale at this year’s Diggle School Fete and the Yorkshire Day Festival. Buy one now at the Band Club or ring them on 01457 872856 or visit the Friends of Diggle Band Club website: www.friendsofdigglebandclub.com
Friends of Diggle Band Club would like to thank Phil and Jo Grundy at Simply Signs for the t-shirt artwork.
Also organised by Friends of Diggle Band Club are live music nights on the last Saturday of each month, open to all for just £5, including a hot supper, and all gigs start at 7pm. Tickets are available from Diggle Band Club, Diggle Post Office or pay on the door.
