Gallery Oldham has been named in the final 20 for the prestigious Telegraph ‘Family Friendly Museum Award’.
A record-breaking 800 museums were nominated this year by families and the Greaves Street venue has made it to the last 20.
Dea Birkett, Director of Kids in Museums who run the award, said: “It’s great that Gallery Oldham has made it to the longlist for the Family Friendly Museum Award.
“It’s the biggest museum award in Britain and the only one judged by families, so it’s a very special endorsement.
“There were over 800 nominations this year, so the competition was very tough.
“Gallery Oldham stood out because visitors of all ages – from grandparents to toddlers – said how welcoming it was, how friendly the staff were, and what a wide range of things there are to do.
“Gallery Oldham is an excellent example of a small, local museum making a big impact.”
From a friendly café and drop-in workshops, the Gallery’s flexible and imaginative year-round family programmes offer exhibitions and activites for families to enjoy together.
Their new exhibition ‘Season’s Best’ features a range of nature-inspired explorer sacks, exciting activities and interactive objects.
