KIND-HEARTED bikers have smashed their own record to raise a staggering £10,000 for charity after hosting an array of exciting events throughout 2015.
Road Wizards MCC presented a cheque for their highest ever amount to the British Limbless Ex Serviceman’s Association (BLESMA) at their Christmas party at Greenfield Conservative Club.
Sharon McDaid, club secretary, said: “The look on Mike Downes (regional manager BLESMA) and Barbara Warners (fundraising director) faces when we handed the cheque over was unforgettable.
“This is such an amazing charity and gives so much back to our service men and women.
“We couldn’t have raised this amazing amount without the wonderful people of Saddleworth and surrounding areas.”
Fundraising started last June with a ‘BLESMA Day’ which raised £1,000, and another £3,500 was added from the Bunker Burgers stall at Yanks Weekend in August.
The club’s popular annual Charity Bike Show in September at Saddleworth Rangers rugby ground raised more than £3,000, with more added from a Halloween Party and charity runs.
With a whopping £9,550 by the night of the presentation, chairman Ozzy McDaid and the members decided to top up the total to £10,000 out of club funds.
The Road Wizards will be continuing their support for BLESMA, which relies totally on donations, in 2016 with more fundraising events.
Previously they have raised thousands of pounds for charities including Guide Dogs for the Blind, The Royal British Legion and The Genesis Trust, as well as provided sleeping bags and warm clothing for homeless people.
