WANT TO learn something new? Then get down to the Diamond Awl Leather Workshop where you can take part in a unique, practical leather course.
Based in Woodend mill, Mossley, Diamond Awl are offering one or two day courses to teach you all you need to know about making leather goods, from wallets to tote bags.
The courses, which have been running for three years, are taught in an authentic, relaxed and inspirational learning environment for six to eight people to ensure everyone receives the individual attention needed.
Running from May to October this year, the one-day courses offer a choice of making products ranging from a card holder to a mobile phone case while the two-day courses are for items like tote bags and tool bags or even a medieval kidney pouch if you are feeling adventurous.
Jason Stocks-Young said: “You will learn traditional leather-making techniques, including design and planning, marking and cutting out, hand stitching, edging and rivet setting.
“You will leave the course having made your very own leather good.”
The courses take place in a studio located in Woodend Mill in Mossley, which was built in 1848 and was one of the last working cotton mills in the country.
It has now developed into a thriving cultural hub and is a base for more than 30 artists, including painters, photographers, sculptors, jewelers and musicians.
