A MAD Hatter’s tea party at a popular Delph pub will help raise much-needed funds for a children’s hospice.

The Old Bell Inn is hosting the gourmet evening with an Alice in Wonderland inspired menu to raise funds for Francis House Children’s Hospice.
And head chef Mark Pemberton revealed he came up with the unique five-course menu thanks to his children.
He said: “The inspiration came from my own children. I read them Alice in Wonderland and Alice through the Looking Glass books, which they love.
“I’ve created a menu that reflects parts of the book and the tea party itself. Stories enhance a child’s imagination and a gourmet dinner of this kind has enhanced mine.”
The Mad Hatters Tea Party menu includes ‘Cup of Tea’, a chicken and beetroot consommé with chicken and thyme dumplings; and ‘Eat Me’, a lamb’s liver and mushroom pate, brioche and blackberry and fig jam.
There is also ‘Off with his head’, slow roast pigs head, caramelised apple, fennel hash brown, and sage and onion scotch egg; then for dessert a ‘Jack of Hearts’ strawberry jam tart.
The evening will also include charity raffle, an auction and live entertainment from Andy Lee. A similar event last year raised more than £2,200.
Funds will benefit Francis House, which provides free care for children, teenagers and young adults with life threatening conditions and the necessary support and short-term rest for their families.
A £3.5 million pound building extension is on the verge of completion, while annual running costs for the extended Francis House are expected to rise to approximately £4.6 million.
The Mad Hatters’ Tea Party will be held at the Old Bell Inn in Delph on Friday, April 4. Tickets cost £37.50 and must be booked in advance by calling 01457 870 130.
