A LEES student hopes to map out a fine future for herself, by looking into the past.
Daisy Kershaw scored got an A in Ancient History and Bs in History, Psychology and the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) at Oldham sixth Form College.
Her fascination with what has gone on before will continue as she will study Ancient History and History at Newcastle University.
And while the Ancient Greeks and Romans may be millennia old, she has found they can still apply today.
Daisy said: “I quite like how it’s an essay subject. I don’t really need to do problem solving, because I’m not the best at Maths.
“It’s something I can just think about and write about.
“We studied the Greeks and the Romans, which was really interesting. In Rome, we did the 12 Julio-Claudians, so we did from Julius Caesar to Domitian, a long line of emperors.
“For the Greeks, we looked at 75 years of the Peloponnesian Wars.
“That meant an in-depth study about the life of the Spartans and how they used to live, including things like education and their attitude to women.
“It does apply today. In history, we looked at the Glorious Revolution, which centred on how the banking system, the monarchy and the powers of parliament came to how they are today.
“And after my degree, I’m going to look at becoming a history teacher.”
Daisy was surrounded by friends s her achievement, and those of others, was marked at OSFC’s Union Street West centre.
But until confirmation, there was only one feeling as Daisy added: “I was scared.
“The alarm went off and I just sat straight up. For the whole summer, I wasn’t really worried, but the night before, it just kicked in.
“However, I’m happy. I’m where I need to be and I’m just grateful that my university has accepted me.”
