Greenfield farmer urges drivers to slow down for pheasants

A GREENFIELD farmer has slammed speeding motorists for leaving a trail of devastation on the infamous ‘Isle of Skye’ road.

Chris breeds pheasants at Upperwood House above Dovestone Reservoir but finds dead birds almost daily on the scenic but winding A635.

“On one day I counted about 13 or 14 that had been hit by cars,” he told the Saddleworth Independent.

“Some drivers even do it deliberately to get some road kill. Before you can get out, they’ve stopped and put the pheasants in their boot.

“I just want drivers to have some patient and stop ironing out the birds.

“Pheasants can be a bit dopey so it just needs cars to slow down or to blow their horns if they see any walking across the road.

“I probably breed about 2,000 birds a year but we’ve lost so many I thought I’d put up a sign to try and get drivers to slow down.”
