Helicopters help Mountain Rescue Teams in Greenfield rescue

TWO Mountain Rescue Teams and helicopters were called into action for a 4.5-hour rescue above Greenfield.

Oldham Mountain Rescue Team was contacted by North West Ambulance Service about a man who had fallen and injured his leg near Dovestones.

A team of 14 made their way to the end of the track below Ravenstones while North West Air Ambulance Charity circled around looking for the casualty.

They could not spot him so OMRT members were dispatched up the scramble in Birchen Clough, assisted by five members of Holme Valley Mountain Rescue Team.

The man was found above a waterfall and a request was made for a Maritime and Coastguard Agency helicopter due to the difficulty evacuating from that location.

With assistance from the Air Ambulance paramedic, the casualty was made comfortable and placed on an OMRT stretcher ready for winching.

Once the Coastguard helicopter arrived, the casualty was winched out of the gully and flown across Dovestones to a landing area where he was transferred to an OMRT vehicle then an ambulance.
