Hobson Street Car Park closed temporarily for repairs

Oldham Council has closed Hobson Street car park until further notice after an inspection found the need for repair works to the building.

Drivers are advised that alternative town centre car parking spaces are available at Bow Street, Bradshaw Street, Civic Centre, Southgate Street, Sports Centre, Tommyfield Market, Waterloo Street and New Radcliffe Street (disabled only).

Spaces are also available in the Spindles Town Centre Car Park and Bloom Street.

Councillor Jean Stretton, Cabinet Member for Town Centres, Culture and Tourism, said: “Unfortunately we have no other option than to close Hobson Street car park.

“A requirement to investigate repair works has been identified and public safety is always the most important consideration.

“It’s not ideal timing in the run up to Christmas but plenty of other parking provision is available across the town centre.

“Hobson Street is generally underused by the public. The main users are council staff and employees from partner organisations who have paid for permits. They are being offered alternative parking options.

“We will be assessing our options in the days ahead and will release further information when we have it.”
