STATE OF the art shockwave therapy is attracting patients from far and wide to a forward-thinking physiotherapy practice in Uppermill.
Saddleworth Physiotherapy Clinic, established in 1996 on the High Street, is one of the only private clinics in the North West to own one of the innovative machines.
The technology uses high-intensity sound waves which interact with and stimulate body tissues to kick-start healing and return the injured area to normal functionality.
Research shows it improves 75 per cent of chronic conditions including tennis or golfers elbow, jumpers knee, Achilles tendinitis and shoulder tendinitis.
And after investing heavily in the technology three months ago, clinical director Catherine Johnstone has been delighted with the treatment results so far.
She explained: “We are one of the only clinics in the North West to have one and shockwave therapy is not currently available on the NHS.
“We were convinced we would get good results – and we are doing. It’s been outstanding so far.
“Some times patients have had lots of different treatments over months or even years with no success but the shockwave can restore normal functionality and remove pain usually in just three or four treatments.
“It’s better than surgery as it’s non-invasive, there’s no anaesthetic and the problem can be treated straight away without long waiting lists.”
Catherine and two of her experienced staff Stuart Cole and Gareth Taylor are trained to use the machine, which is suitable for all ages and there are very few contraindications.
The clinic also offers physiotherapy treatments for conditions including sciatica, pains in the neck, hip, groin or knee, sprains or strains, muscle, ligament or tendon injury, headaches, wrist or hand problems, balance and mobility problems and jaw disorders.
