PLACES ARE being snapped up for the new 7k Milltown Carnival Race, which takes place on Sunday, June 22.
And as well as testing your personal limits, you’ll get the chance to run against local athlete Andi Jones, who is representing Great Britain at this year’s European Athletics Championships.
The race will start from the promenade at Alexandra Park at noon on Carnival Day and finish at The Lion’s Den. Runners aged 15 and over can book their place in advance, or enter on the day.
The 7k is the latest race to join the growing Milltown to Moors Race Series, which includes the formidable half marathon, which takes place on October 12, plus the Oldham 10k, which was launched last year and will be held on August 17.
Jones, a Commonwealth Games athlete and winner of both the Milltown to Moors Half Marathon and the Oldham 10k in 2013, said: “The Carnival Race is an exciting addition to the Milltown race series.
“Although it looks like it will be a challenging course, being a little shorter than the other races in the series it will hopefully attract some first time runners as well as more seasoned competitors, and show everyone the benefit of engaging in active sport.”
The Milltown Carnival 7k is organised by Oldham Community Leisure (OCL) and the Carnival Management Group, organisers of the Oldham Carnival and RootZ Festival. It costs just £7 to enter in advance (£5 if you’re affiliated to a UK Athletics club), or £8 on the day.
If you’ve already entered and are in training, why not join OCL’s weekly running groups on a Thursday evening 6-7pm at the Radclyffe Athletics track (beginners) and Wednesday 6.30-7.45pm (intermediates)? If you pick up the OCL Active card, which costs £2 a year, a running group session will cost just a £1.
