The Saddleworth Transport Revival Weekend will see events hosted across the community by dedicated members of the Trans-Pennine Transport Heritage Society on Saturday and Sunday, August 10-11.

And the society are tempting non-members who may own unique pieces of history to join their tour and receive a road run map and meal deal vouchers for on the day breakfast and lunch.

Currently, they are planning “pit stops” in Denshaw, the first location from Junction 22 on the M62, then the Old Bell Inn, Delph with a “Drive ‘N Dine” theme.

Nearby Fresca restaurant will stage an “Italian Job” theme with minis and scooters along with S.C.A.R.C.E – Saddleworth Classic and Rare Cars Enthusiast – to hold a display and treasure hunt.

The society will visit Dobcross, where the film “Yanks” is celebrated during the same weekend, and the Hanging Gate and Diggle Hotel with a 1940’s theme at the start of Britain’s longest canal tunnel.

The vehicles will also be seen at Albion Farm Shop who will have their own theme on Oldham Road, Delph.

And the society is promising scenic road runs from Saddleworth to Marsden, returning via Meltham and Holmfirth.

Jonathan Williamson, a leading historic vehicle enthusiast from Delph, will be driving a stylish 1988 Jaguar XJS convertible.

He will be accompanied by David Bentley with his 1940’s Willys Jeep, Alastair Scott in a 1966 Volvo 1800 S four-seater ‘Saint’ style saloon, Frank Gradwell in a  sleek 3.9 litre 2003  American icon, a Thunderbird, and Paul Cronan from Diggle in his giant 1943 Dodge weapons carrier.

The society’s Tony Whalley said: “There is a huge and growing interest in any kind of motorised transport with nostalgic or historical connections. It is something loved by every age group and something for everyone.

“Our members have a wide range of superb vehicles. Many are real eye catchers with fascinating history and we certainly believe the interest and the response from the public will stimulate growth for a similar event next year.”
