BRASS BAND music resounded through Diggle Primary School as pupils enjoyed a masterclass in playing from some very special guests.
The King’s Division Brass Band, under the musical direction of Captain Stewart Halliday MA LRSM ALCM, made the visit from Preston to spend the day with the young musicians.
They put on an inspiring concert in the morning for pupils and staff, before spending time teaching the school’s brass and percussion players a few tunes.
Then the playground was filled with stamping feet as pupils joined the band in marching along to some of their popular Whit Friday pieces.

The day was rounded off with a performance by students in the afternoon of the pieces of music they had been practising earlier.
Teacher Miss Sarah Wilson, who organised the visit, explained: “We have lots of brass players at the school and an exceptionally high number this year – including one teacher and the whole class
“So I thought it would be nice to do something different and a bit special. It’s the first time they have done anything like this and they have loved it.”
The King’s Division Brass Band also put on a special concert at the Civic Hall in Uppermill, hosted by Diggle Brass Band, in aid of Help for Heroes.
