THE TRIAL period is well and truly over for a Springhead architect who is celebrating a full 25 years in the industry – and he insists he is not yet ready to put down his pencil.
Lee Hollinworth, 41, began working at Whittaker Design in September 1989 while at college and his talent and hard work has seen him become an associate in 1998 and then partner in 2006.
Recalling his path, Lee explained how in a typical ‘out of school and straight into work’ scenario he finished his paper round on a Friday, ran the Oldham 10K on Sunday and took up his position on Monday.
But he has never looked back after plunging into work with the architectural technologists, based in Lees, and still enjoys renovating properties across the country from North Yorkshire to Cornwall.
The company services both the domestic and commercial sectors, with projects including pubs and bars, golf clubs, homes, office or retail buildings and healthcare establishments.
Since 1989, Lee has overseen the transition of new technologies, especially the introduction of computer aided design, and frequently changing planning laws and regulations.
And although Lee says the basic rule of designing has not changed, the increased use of the internet means the days of storing literature, samples of wallpapers, fabrics and carpets are now over.
But despite overseeing many changes, Lee claims the company’s aims have not changed since it was established in 1972 by the late Donald Whittaker.
He said: “Our commitment to continuous professional development and remaining up to date with building and planning legislation demonstrates our high level of competency.
“We provide clients with confidence in our abilities to ensure they have the best information and options available whether investing in development of sites, new builds or adaptation of existing buildings.”
Lee and his business partner Alan Doherty, 59, are still going strong at Whittaker Design and are looking forward to the next 25 years.
