THE lift at the Civic Hall in Uppermill is finally back in action after months of being grounded.
Cllr Rob Knotts, chair of the Parish Council which runs the Civic Hall, explained five visits have been made by contractor OTIS since November to try to get the lift working.
In February, OTIS said the lift could not be fixed and a new one was required, but the Parish Council sought a second opinion.
Edmondson Lifting Ltd, which services some other equipment in the Civic Hall, visited and replaced some damaged cabling and wiring, and declared the lift serviceable.
At last month’s council meeting, Cllr Graham Sheldon proposed the contract for the annual maintenance of the lift, lighting bar, dumb waiter and stage extensions be given to Edmondson Lifting Limited, which was unanimously agreed by councillors.
Between 2000 and 2018 an estimated £23,000 has been spent by the Parish Council on maintenance contract and repair work for the lift.
