London Marathon plea to keep Tony running after 25 years

IT LOOKS as though Tony Bugby won’t be on the starting line for the Virgin Money London Marathon for the first time since 1992… unless readers can help.

MARATHON MEDAL
Tony kisses his medal after his marathon last year

After completing the famous marathon for each of the last 25 years, our intrepid Sports Editor has failed to secure a place in this year’s event, which comes as a huge disappointment.

Keen to keep his run going – excuse the pun – Tony is appealing to charities, sponsors or businesses that have been allocated places to get in touch if they have a spare race number that hasn’t been taken up.

He said: “I am in full training in the hope that somebody may be kind enough to find me a place.

“It would be strange not taking part because the London Marathon has become a massive part in my life over the last quarter of a century.

“Last year was a particular highlight and a moment to cherish finishing for the 25th time.

“It never gets easier, though, indeed harder with the passage of time and advancing years.”

You may be running for a particular charity close to your heart or doing it as a personal challenge. He would like to hear your stories to include in the paper.
