SADDLEWORTH MORRIS Men bid a fond farewell to admiring audiences with their annual Lordsmere Longsword finale on December 27 as they hang up their clogs until April.
Members of the talented Morris side removed their famous waistcoats, sashes and bells from their clogs to carry out the dance in traditional dress.
Performed in circling and intertwining ‘figures’ at a fast pace, the dance’s climax sees the swords interlocked to form the ‘lock’ which is then held aloft.
This year’s newest recruit David ‘Harry’ Harrison led the day’s proceedings as ‘Captain’, announcing the beginning of each performance.
The finale was performed at The Wellington, Greenfield, The Swan Dobcross, The Navigation and The Hare and Hounds, The Commercial, The Cross Keys and The Church Inn in Uppermill.
They will next dance in public in April as their season re-launches, gearing towards their annual Rushcart spectacle in Saddleworth in August.
