LOCALS are invited to enjoy a day of walking, entertainment, local history, food, culture and community spirit to raise funds for Maggie’s Oldham.
The centre, which supports people living with cancer, as well as their family and friends, is holding its popular annual ‘Culture Crawl’ on Saturday, September 26.
The 10k walk will begin in Oldham before making its way towards Rochdale for the very first time, finishing at the iconic Rochdale Town Hall.

Participants will discover some of the people, places and stories that make the two boroughs so special, bringing together both communities for one memorable day.
There will be plenty of opportunities to stop, explore, enjoy local culture and soak up the atmosphere, making it a fantastic day out for individuals, families, friends and teams.
The walk will also raise valuable funds for Maggie’s Oldham, based in the grounds of The Royal Oldham Hospital, with every penny raised going towards supporting people living with cancer, their families and friends.
Registration for the Culture Crawl will take place from 12pm at The Loom, before participants set off on the route towards Rochdale.
Sharon Furlong, whose husband Steve has been supported by Maggie’s Oldham throughout his cancer journey, said: “Taking part in Maggie’s Culture Crawl this year means so much to me.
“I’m doing it to help raise vital funds for Maggie’s and to give something back to a place that has been there for both Steve and I during one of the most difficult times of our lives.
“When Steve was in hospital, I found myself struggling to cope with everything that was happening. I started coming to Maggie’s every week and used the psychologist service to help me through what was an incredibly tough and emotional time.
“Having somewhere I could go, someone I could talk to, and a team who genuinely understood made such a difference.
“Maggie’s has also been a huge support to Steve. He attends the men’s group on a Tuesday, which has given him a safe space to talk, meet other men going through similar experiences and feel less alone.
“Cancer impacts the whole family, not just the person who receives the diagnosis, and Maggie’s understands that. They have supported us both, whenever we have needed them.”
Early bird tickets are now available for the walk and with places expected to be popular, Maggie’s is urging people to get their tickets early.
The fundraising target to take part is £60. Every walker will also be given a free orange Maggie’s t-shirt to wear during the walk.
Becca Knight, Centre Fundraiser at Maggie’s Oldham, said: “Culture Crawl is one of our staple events of the year and something we look forward to bringing to our supporters and local communities.
“It’s going to be a fantastic day of fun, culture and community, while raising vital funds to ensure Maggie’s can continue to be there for anyone with cancer, their families and friends.”
