A MAN has been arrested after an attempted rape at a bus stop in Oldham town centre.
Shortly before 10:50pm on 27 September 2015, a 45-year-old woman was sat at the bus stop on Middleton Road when she was approached by a man.
The man engaged her in conversation before he assaulted her and attempted to rape her.
A 19-year-old man was arrested in Oldham on Friday 2 October 2015 on suspicion of attempted rape and remains in custody for questioning.
Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses to what is believed to be an isolated incident.
Detective Inspector Mark McDowall said: “We are continuing to appeal for witnesses to the incident to come forward.
“This happened on a busy street at a busy time and we believe a number of potential witnesses will have driven past at the time of the attack and may have seen something.
“The incident has understandably left the victim very distressed and specially officers are continuing to provide her with support.”
