A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a stabbing incident in Oldham late last night.
Emergency services were called to Rochdale Road at 11:30pm on Saturday, January 11, following reports of an attack.
It is believed that a member of the public assaulted a member of staff at Royal Oldham Hospital.
The victim, a woman in her 50s, sustained serious injuries and remains in hospital for treatment. Her injuries are described as life-changing.
A 37-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder. He remains in police custody for questioning.
Detective Sergeant Craig Roters from Oldham Police stated, “This is a serious incident which has left a woman in a critical condition. Our thoughts are with her family and colleagues, and we will continue to support them throughout this investigation.”
While the investigation is still in its early stages, police have confirmed they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident and do not believe there is a wider threat to the public.
Residents can expect an increased police presence in the area as enquiries continue. Officers will also be on hand to offer reassurance and address any concerns.
DS Roters added, “We know that news of this nature will come as a shock, and if you have any concerns or anything you would like to share, please speak to the officers.”
