SADDLEWORTH Women’s Morris and Clog, the area’s first women’s morris dancing side, celebrated their first anniversary with a day of performances across the community.
Formed in January 2024, the group has grown to 25 members who share a passion for keeping traditional dance alive.
Undeterred by the bitterly cold weather, the team, accompanied by their band, toured Delph, Dobcross and Uppermill, showcasing their talents to audiences.
The celebration began at Albion Farm in Delph before moving on to Stoneswood care home, The Swan Inn in Dobcross and concluding with a finale at The Cross Keys in Uppermill.
Lucy Marstin, the side’s squire and forewoman, reflected on the day’s success:
“It was a wonderful day, and we are very appreciative of the turnout. When we first launched, I expected just a few people to turn up, but enough came to our first practice to form three sides! We’ve gone from strength to strength since then.”
She added: “We’re now busy learning new dances for the start of the season in Easter, but our doors are always open for new dancers.”
The group invites anyone interested in joining to their Wednesday evening practices, held from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Denshaw Village Hall.
