A MAN has died after being hit by a train at the Moorgate Halt level crossing in Uppermilll.
Police and ambulances attended the scene around 12.40pm and the body was taken away by private ambulance.
The TransPennine Express train, bound for Manchester Airport, was temporarily halted before being released around 1.30pm to continue its journey, with the line reopen.
British Transport Police confirmed in a statement on their website: “We were called at 12.40pm today (3/11) to the Moorgate Halt crossing near Oldham to reports that a person had been struck by a train.
“Officers attended along with the ambulance service. Sadly a man died at the scene.
“The incident is not currently being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
There was a fatality at the same spot three years ago when a teenager was killed after being hit by a train.
