Mossley, whose victory was their third in four seasons in the competition, made a dream start when John Bennett fired them ahead after only 15 seconds.

And they held on to it until the 87th minute when Jordan Wright equalised.

The game went to penalties after 90 minutes with Mossley winning 3-1 with successful kicks from Mike Fish, Tom Pratt and Kyle McGonigle.

Curzon missed three kicks and Mossley one from captain Andy Keogh as they emerged victors.

Mossley also narrowly missed out by two points and two places from making the promotion play offs in EvoStik League, first division north.

The fact that Mossley were challenging for promotion was a great achievement bearing in mind they had one of the smallest budgets in the division which included financial big hitters like champions Salford City who were backed by Manchester United’s Class of 92, Darlington, Spennymoor and Lancaster.

Mossley’s Seel Park ground is hosting a charity match on Sunday, May 31 involving Alex Williams Allstars versus Manchester City Old Boys. It kicks off at 2pm and admission is £3 for adults and £1 for concessions.
