A NEWLY-FORMED village horticultural show team are hoping to find someone who really knows their onions…

Because a coveted trophy, which was gifted by a long-time supporter of the show, has gone missing before the big day.
The Jack Alderson Memorial Trophy was awarded to the winner of the best seed onions set at Delph’s annual show at The Delph Club.
Now the show’s new chairman Gilbert Symes is hoping to return the trophy to its rightful place among the glittering silverware for Delph Horticultural Society’s 87th show on Saturday, September 12.
Gilbert said: “Jack was a great stalwart of the event but when we did an audit of the trophies, we discovered the one gifted in his memory was missing.
“So hopefully, if someone knows where to locate it, we should have it back in time for September.
“We are determined to rekindle interest in the event which really gives locals of every age a chance to show off their growing and green-fingered skills.”
Along the traditional 60 classes for produce, this year there will be new classes for youngsters including best miniature garden, largest sunflower head and best Flower Pot Man and handicraft items.
And, as part of the revamp, Gilbert has appointed a new committee which includes former Saddleworth Parish Council chair Pam Preston (vice chair), OMBC and Parish councillor Nicola Kirkham (secretary) and Natalie Dunn (treasurer).
