New golf clubs seal success again for Denise at Saddleworth Golf Club

LIGHTNING DOES strike twice as Denise Brown captured Lady Captain’s Prize at Saddleworth Golf Club for the second time in three years

And it was once again a case of the mother-of-two’s new clubs coming up trumps as she also attributed them to her success last year when she won Mr Captain’s Prize.

Denise, who only took up golf four years ago having earlier played tennis and squash at Tame Valley, has already won four majors as she also lifted the Committee Cup in 2013.

She was the runaway victor in Lady Captain’s having two nett rounds of 68 for a total of 136 in the 36-hole meal which is a club major.

Her closest challenger was Linda Kenworthy who was seven shots adrift after rounds of 69 and 74 for 143.

The first-day prize went to Ann Head (80-13-67) and second-round honours to Pam Taylor (87-15-72).

In third place with 45 points were P Cragg and F Eccles from Bradford Moor.

And the prize for a team with a combined age of over 140 years went to Saddleworth’s Norman Harrop and John Booth who totalled 43 points.

The seniors open is an annual competition that is organised by Saddleworth member Albert Rogerson and assisted by his wife Hazel.
