SADDLEWORTH AND Lees is set to blossom under the attention of a new Growing Ambassador for the area.
Louise Dinh has taken on the role for 12 months to offer information and support to local food growing groups, one-off sessions or help getting new projects started.
Her role is part of the Get Oldham Growing initiative, a programme to get communities in the borough active and engaged in food growing, cooking and eating to improve public health.
Louise said: “I’m really looking forward to the year ahead and can’t wait to get involved in the local growing projects.
“So far I’ve been busy meeting up with some of the people and groups I will be working with, like Adventure Based Learning in Greenfield and the Brownhill Countryside Centre in Dobcross.
“It’s fantastic to see so much enthusiasm for the project so soon after starting in this post!”
Keen grower Louise got the gardening bug after volunteering at community allotments and then trained at Adlington Hall and worked at the Mind Kitchen Garden in Hyde, while gaining her qualifications.
She added: “I’ve also made the most of my own small concrete yard and it is covered in lots of pots growing raspberries, strawberries, herbs, veg and salads so I am proof that growing in small spaces can definitely be done!”
Louise has organised a Fruit Tree Grafting Workshop at the Satellite Centre in Greenfield on Monday, March 30 at 6.30pm for anyone interesting in learning how to graft fruit trees.
There are limited places so please contact Louise if you would like to be booked onto this workshop, on 07525 857 329 or email louise.dinh@groundwork.org.uk.
If you would love to get involved at a food growing site please sign up to the Get Oldham Growing Supporters list.
