Plea for locals to attend crucial residents meeting

A POTENTIAL lifeline has been thrown to a flailing volunteer community organisation whose future could be decided at a public meeting this weekend.

Lees Community Association (LCA) was being in the process of being disbanding because of a lack of volunteers willing to take on the officer roles.

They had appealed for local support but the lack of response left them believing the association was doomed and the frustrated committee called it a day.

But now community champion, Barbara Beeley, chair of Springhead Community Association, has offered a potential lifeline.

She and her officers met with LCA chairman, Raad al Hamdani and secretary Jenny Daubney to discuss linking the two organisations.

On Saturday, March 28 they are inviting residents to join them at Springhead Community Centre to hear the proposals and to put forward their views.

Barbara said: “As you will be aware Lees Community Association is in the process of disbanding because of lack of volunteers to take on the officer roles.

“But our officers have met to discuss becoming one association. We should now welcome locals’ views on the idea.”

The LCA raised more than £20,000 for local projects over five years and held village fetes, Christmas switch-ons and more.

At the time Mr Al-Hamdani said: “It is sad no one is prepared to put themselves forward to run the functions organised by the association.

“It was gratifying to see families enjoying themselves at our summer fair and when they visited Santa’s grotto in winter.

“We brought our local schools together by running the annual Art, Poetry and Craft competition and had some wonderful art work by the children.”

Interested parties are invited to the public meeting to hear the proposals on Saturday, March 28 at 10am at Springhead Community Centre, Ashes Lane, Springhead OL4 4PF. Light refreshments will be served.
