New publication entertains locals in Greenfield pub

by Trevor Baxter

A MYSTERY publication has appeared in Saddleworth with a circulation exclusively reserved for pub regulars.

The Greenfield Trumpeter has quickly become a must read for locals at the King William IV hostelry on Chew Valley Road.

The writer’s identity is a closely guarded secret with ‘King Bill’ landlord Tony Simpson declining to unmask the phantom publisher.

However, there could be a clue that readers are asked to make a donation to the Oldham Mountain Rescue Team when they browse the free, eight-page publication.

With content a cross between Private Eye, football fanzine and the late lamented Punch, the Trumpeter mainly pokes fun at local issues and characters.

The latest offering’s page three scoop is a tale of ghost vehicles parking in Uppermill plus a back page lead of eye-widening operations by Dr Seymour Items allowing Dovestone day-trippers to take in better views of the well-known beauty spot!
