New roof for Uppermill CC

UPPERMILL Cricket Club’s leaking clubhouse roof has been fixed at a cost of £8,000.

Parent company Uppermill Sports Club has had a completely new roof at its Leefields ground.

The work was undertaken by Oldham company Assured Construction.

Club official Jim Bradbury explained there had been long-standing issues with the leaking roof.

Uppermill held fundraising events to pay for the new roof, including two fashion shows and social events.

The club also sold tiles at £5 a time while two donations were received from legacies.

Uppermill will be making a decision at the end of February as to their new captain for the forthcoming season. Andrew Jones is standing down but remaining a player.

Uppermill had already re-signed professional Ayaz Tasawar, who has agreed a two-year deal.

SADDLEWORTH has issued an appeal for new players, both seniors and juniors.

The seniors have been forced to voluntarily drop two divisions in the Greater Manchester Cricket League following an exodus of players.

Saddleworth, who won the treble in the final season of the Saddleworth League, will play in division 3E alongside Springhead as the club looks to rebuild its senior sides.

The club caters for players from the age of six and have teams at Under-9, 11, 13, 15 and 19 levels.

Details of indoor winter training will be announced soon.

During the season seniors will trains on Tuesday at 6.30pm and juniors on Friday also at the same time.
