A COMMUNITY-SPIRITED district nurse has come to the aid of a popular village club by leading a new coffee shop team of volunteers.
The popular monthly event at Dobcross Band and Social Club has raised more than £14,000 to support vital improvements to fixtures and fittings at the club’s Platt Lane headquarters.
Now Alison Labrey, a mother of three, moves in with a new team of enthusiasts to take over from Val Hanson’s squad in June.
“Val and her team have done a fantastic job over the years,” said Alison. “I’m looking forward to the challenge and our team have been really boosted by encouraging comments from club members.”
Val said: “We started the coffee shop to raise money for the club refurbishment. We felt the village needed somewhere to bring people together of all ages.
“People have been amazing and really appreciate what we do which makes it all very pleasant. And the pride in the team is such, we did not lose one of the volunteers in three years.
“I’m sure Alison will be the same. We wish them every success.”
Enjoy coffee and tasty snacks at Dobcross Band Club Coffee Shop on the first Saturday of every month to raise funds for the club.
The volunteers serve up a mouth-watering array including bacon butties, beans on toast, cakes, scones and drinks.
The next coffee shop is on July 7 from 10am-12noon.
