New Year, new role for chef Alan at the White Lion

THE New Year will see a new landlord with a familiar face taking over at the White Lion in Delph.

Carl Benton and Alan Brian Warriar

After five years, Carl Benton, 44, and Marie Phillips are moving on with January 4, 2019 their final farewell. Taking over the reins is current head chef Alan Warriar.

“I only came to help out one Christmas and four years later I am still here,” laughed Marie, 62, a former lecturer at Tameside College.

“It was never on the bucket list to run a pub and it has been hard work. But I will miss the customers.

“However, we will be giving it 100 percent until we finally walk out of the place.”

Carl, a qualified civil engineer, is leaving the licensing trade to return to his former profession and join Sven Engineering.

The White Lion’s kitchen re-opened for business at 12 noon on Friday, November 30 after successor Alan’s return from a training course in preparation for his new role.
