OLDHAM COUNCIL Leader Jim McMahon has collected his OBE from Buckingham Palace.

It was announced in the Queen’s Birthday Honours in December that Cllr McMahon has been selected for the award in recognition of his ‘services to Oldham’.
He said: “Only two weeks ago I was elected as an MP and sworn in to parliament and this really has been an amazing end to a busy year.
“It was a very special family day and I was thrilled my partner Charlene and sons Jack and Harry could be with me.
“The honour is a recognition that our town is being seen as moving on to a confident future and we must continue to fight for investment and jobs.”
Cllr McMahon became the new Labour MP for Oldham West and Royton in early December after a by-election was called following the death of Labour stalwart Michael Meacher, who had built up a majority of 14,738.
The Oldham Council Leader beat UKIP into second place with 61.92 per cent of the vote as 40.26 per cent of the electorate turned out to vote.
