A 15-strong volunteer group from Oldham Mountain Rescue Team was joined by police and air services to rescue three people lost above Dovestone in Greenfield.
OMRT was called by Greater Manchester Police who received the emergency call and sent team members and their vehicles to the area to lead the three-hour search.
Using Phone Find technology and with the assistance of a helicopter from the National Police Air Service, the lost party were located at Ashway, high on the hillside.
Once OMRT were on scene, the very cold party members were checked over and given extra clothing before starting the walk down.
They were met at the bottom by an ambulance, checked over again and warmed up before being allowed home.
