Paul Harris Fellowship is ‘great honour’ for Rotary president

SADDLEWORTH Rotary Club president Clint Elliott said it is a ‘great honour’ to receive the prestigious Paul Harris Fellowship for outstanding service to the organisation and the community.

The award, named after one of the founding fathers, is the highest bestowed by Rotary and goes to a worthy individual within or outside the organisation each year.

Clint received his Fellowship at the Club meeting at The White Hart, Lydgate, when former president John Ainley highlighted his achievements, including the Queen’s Police Medal for 35 years’ service.

John said: “Clint has held most positions in the Club and has worked tirelessly on the Summer Show and Wellifest. He is a long-standing trustee at Age UK Oldham and a mentor at Mahdlo Youth Zone.

“Clint epitomises the Rotary motto Service above Self in every way.”

Clint added: “It is a great honour to receive such a prestigious Rotary award. I have very much enjoyed my time as a member over the previous 10 years and acknowledge the Club has a proud tradition of community involvement and support for charitable causes stretching back over more than 50 years.

“It has been both challenging at times but an enjoyable experience using the skills I have gained over my working years to help to continue with Rotary aims together with other Club members and on many occasions local volunteers.

“Going forward the big challenge for Rotary in Saddleworth is to continue to achieve the levels of success both with raising funds through public events and continued community engagement and support.

“I am sure there must be others out there in Saddleworth who would welcome the chance to use their time and experience to help out in the future and the Club would be happy to provide that opportunity.”
