APARTMENTS will be placed above a Springhead business if planning permission is granted.
And a downturn in demand has led to the proposal for Garforth Glass, on Co-operative Street.
The business will remain on the ground floor and basement, but the rest of the building would see changes.

The first storey, which is currently used as a store, workshop and office, will be split to house the lounges and kitchens of the accommodation.
On the second, which is currently roof space, will be two bedrooms each, while a WC will be on each level. A bin store will also be incorporated into the ground floor.
Documents supporting the application revealed the reasoning, stating: “Due to reduced demand for the commercial use, it is intended to retain the ground floor and basement area as existing and to construct self-contained flats at first floor level to include the converted roof space with access from Co-operative Street.
“The design principle is to create two dwelling s to meet local demand and work within the existing structure with minimal alterations and impact on the locality.
“There is ample parking in a purpose-made car park off Co-operative Street.”
Oldham Council’s Planning Committee will decide whether to grant or refuse permission.
