DOBCROSS YOUNGSTERS had a brush with the law – as PC Mark Clough visited a pre-school to tell pupils about his job.
Little Acorns had been looking at ‘people who help us’ and staff invited PC Clough to speak about his role as a police officer for the Saddleworth North Policing Team.
He took along pictures and equipment to show the pupils, who are aged two to five years old, and even let them sit in his police car.
Julie Leeson, pre-school manager at Little Acorns, said: “PC Clough kindly came and spoke to the children about the role of the police officer.
“The children thoroughly enjoyed the visit and are still talking about it now.”
PC Clough added: “I really enjoyed sharing what a policeman does with the children and they really enjoyed going in the car!”
The school was also treated to a visit from Oldham Mountain Rescue Team volunteer Justin Parkinson, who talked to the children about staying safe while walking outside.
He explained how the team rescue people when needed in the Saddleworth area and delighted pupils by allowing them to sit in his Land Rover and listen to the siren.
Other ‘people who help us’ looked at by staff and pupils included the Fire Service, doctors and nurses, with one of the parents coming in to talk about her job as a GP.
Little Acorns Pre-school on Sandy Lane in Dobcross was established in 1978 and provides early years education for children aged two to five years old. It has fully qualified staff who encourage children to develop academically and also socially.
