A POPULAR Uppermill pharmacist has his eyes set on helping to develop community pharmacy across the country after being elected as Chair of the National Pharmacy Association.
Ian Strachan, who owns Strachan’s Chemist on New Street, has taken on the prestigious role for the leading representative body for independent community pharmacy across the United Kingdom.
Ian already represents the National Pharmacy Association (NPA) in North East England and hopes now as chair for the next two years he can help to push their cause to leading organisations and communities.
“It is a great privilege to be appointed Chair of an association that is central to the wellbeing of community pharmacies in every part of the UK,” said Ian, who owns three other pharmacies.
“My aim is to present the case for independent community pharmacy to government, the NHS and others who shape the conditions in which our sector operates.
“I am passionate about playing my part in making things better for the sector and the communities we serve.”
Ian spent five years as a forensic scientist at the Home Office Forensic Science Laboratories before undertaking his pharmacy degree and graduating from Brighton University in 1985.
Qualifying in 1986, he held diverse pharmacy manager positions in both the independent and multiple sectors.
He has also turned his hand to education after gaining a PGCE in 1996 and teaching the GCSE syllabus in mainstream education.
Over the past ten years he has held a number of consumer healthcare consultancy roles and has been a contributing editor for a number of pharmacy publications.
