TRIBUTES HAVE been paid after former councillor and Parish Clerk Philip Bagley passed away in February, aged 82.
Philip, of Grasscroft, enjoyed an illustrious law career which included holding the positions of Criminal Barrister, Chairman of an Employment Tribunal and Senior Lecturer at Manchester Polytechnic.
He was also well-known for his political activities and represented Springhead, Delph and Denshaw when Saddleworth became part of Oldham in 1974.
He later became Clerk to Saddleworth Parish Council for 17 years, retiring in 1995 before returning to in 2007 for four years.
Active in the local community, he was a member of Dove Stone Sailing Club (1972-84), and was Church Warden, Sidesman and Scout Master of St Annes Lydgate from the late 60s.
His funeral was held at St Anne’s Lydgate, and he is survived by his wife Margaret, sons Andrew and Simon and seven grandchildren.
At last month’s Parish Council meeting, councillors paid tribute by reflecting on the ‘wonderful years Philip served the community’ and held a one minute’s silence before saying a prayer in his memory.
