A STAGGERING £16,368 was raised last year by Saddleworth Ladies’ Lifeboat Guild as they hosted a fleet of popular and successful events.
The group had aimed to top the £13,550 they raised in 2012 and perhaps reach £15,000 but thanks to generous donations they smashed their target despite the general economic gloom.
The biggest money-raising event was their Cross Morecambe Bay Sponsored Walk, which raised more than £4,100 and will be repeated this year on Saturday, September 20.
The Annual Luncheon at the White Hart raised more than £3,200 while the Open Garden event at Earnshaw Farm, Lydgate, brought in another £1,680.
Their scrumptious Summer Cream Tea added £1,740, a Charity Night courtesy of Saddleworth Players raised £878 and an end-of-year Quiz Night £390.
Three coffee mornings together raised £677, souvenir sales from throughout the year came to £2,260, while other donations totalled £1,420.
Joan Halkyard, chairman of SLLG, commented: “All in all it is a very satisfying return to all those ladies who worked so very hard in 2013 and the generosity of all the individuals and businesses for supporting the RNLI, such a worthy cause.”
