POLICE ARE appealing for witnesses after an attempted rape in Oldham town centre.
Shortly before 4.40am on Friday 28 October 2016 a 34-year woman was found on Union Street in a distressed state.
The victim had been in a bar off Yorkshire Street and was making her way home, when a man she had spoken to earlier in the evening approached her and sexually assaulted her behind a chiropractor practice on Yorkshire Street.
Officers are investigating and a police cordon is in place in the area.
Detective Inspector Ian Harratt from GMP’s Oldham Borough said: “This was a violent attack we are pulling together the details of what exactly happened.
“The victim is receiving our full support at this horrific time and I am determined to find the person responsible.
“The attacker is described as around 30-years-old with olive skin, of medium build with brown eyes, dark brown short back and sides hair and stubble.
“We believe he was wearing black jeans with a dark jacket with a fur pattern on the front. He spoke with a local accent and identified himself as “Lee”.
“Help and support will always be there for people who want to come forward and report sexual offences or speak to someone about concerns they may have.
“I am appealing for anyone who may have any information about this horrendous attack or who may recognise the description or have seen the man in the bars in Oldham town centre, to get in touch with me as soon as possible.”
