WE ALL know the feeling of dry, parched and, if coloured blonde, brassy-looking hair which has been damaged due to lack of moisture caused by the sun, sea and swimming pool.
The following advice will help to get you back on track:
- Book a trim with your stylist and enquire about a ‘deep’ conditioning treatment and a toner if you are not ready for a re-touch
- To remove the build-up of chlorine or sea salt you will need to use a ‘deep cleansing or clarifying’ shampoo
- Use a heat protector spray
- Invest in a professional range from your salon specifically for sun damaged hair (your stylist will advise you). I would recommend Wella
Always remember that prevention is better than a cure. Here are a few tips:
- Try to avoid styling appliances and go natural. This will help hair drying out
- Always use a sun protector spray on your hair and wear a hat
- Never put natural lemon juice on your hair to try and highlight it
- Be careful with bleached hair in the pool – it has been known for hair to turn green
- If you wear your hair up in a ponytail, take extra care with the ends as the sun will affect that area most
- Use a serum to prevent frizzy hair
