ROZ WOOD, from High Street Jacker in Uppermill, gives a trend report for the Autumn Winter season
AS THE nights start to get darker and the temperature begins to drop it can only mean one thing: Autumn is on its way.
But to soften the blow of the end of summer is the excitement of a new fashion season.
We at High Street Jacker (along with most of Britain) favour the Autumn Winter season as unfortunately due to our climate we wear these buys for the majority of the year.
So here is a breakdown of this season’s most influential trends, led by the runway and followed by the High Street.
Ladies vs Gents
The coming season is split this year between ladylike silhouettes and masculine tailoring. Dior and Nina Ricci lead the way showcasing feminine shapes with nipped in waists, fitted busts and knee length hemlines.
Stella McCartney favours oversize masculine coats and trouser suits. Bloggers have taken to this trend by teaming oversize men’s sweats or shirts with tapered trousers teamed with a beenie hat: cool and comfy.
Winter Florals
We are loving the moody blooms that appeared on the runways of Oscar de la Renta and Lanvin: dark backgrounds perfectly complimenting the rich luscious colours of floral prints. Great for occasional wear and brightening up grey winter days and nights.
Grunge & Punk
Think Nirvana in the form of tie-dye, rough edges and oversize slouchy shapes. Team tartan or plaid together with leather and harsh studs and spikes for a punkier approach. This trend is great for younger fashionistas, leather trousers teamed with oversized t’s and knits look great with chunky jewellery.
Animal Instinct
Release your inner animal this season. Whether it be the drama of elaborate feather and fur trims (see Alexander McQueen and Versace’s collection for inspiration) or busy leopard and cow prints the wild has made a grrrrreat impact for the months ahead. Crocodile, python and pony skin are also key, especially in luggage.
Stylist notes
Dusty pink is THE colour for autumn, closely followed by inky blues and robust reds. Rucksacks have made a come-back for day and strap clutches are favourite for evening.
